Review:

This was an interesting dual timeline story that I thought started out slow and had information about writers that I found a smidge tedious. But, that is because I am not I writer. As the story unfolds I flew through the story and had a difficult time putting it down. I loved how the plots were connected and Ms. Dobson did a great job of showing Via, Izzy, and Harper each overcoming adversity. The villain was truly a man who you really want to see him answer for what he has done. Bravo on portraying his character!

If you are a fan of dual timelines and strong female characters, you should look into reading this book.

 Review: 

No one can really compare to Jaime Jo Wright when it comes to Gothic dual time novels. Once again she has created two stories that intertwine and leave me wondering, “How does she do it?”. I enjoyed the mystery and was quite pleased with myself in determining who the villains were in each story. There is a faith thread in which the characters must determine where God is in their story, which I thought was very good.

Review: 

This split-time story took me by surprise. There is a mystery of the suicide of a high school student from the past that plays a major part in the present day story. Blair Emerson and Callum Knight must work together to find musical pieces for the students to perform and in doing so come across a beautiful and haunting piece in the school’s musical library. I loved the way in which Ms. Wen wove the two stories together; there were surprising turns that were better than what I had hoped would happen. I particularly loved the ending for both stories.

I am not a musician, so many of the references about music and specific pieces were at times difficult for me to connect with. But, I found the story intriguing and I’m so glad I read it. I was fascinated to read about the composition process of both Iris and Callum’s pieces.

Review: 

Jaime Jo Wright amazes me at how she can write intriguing dual timeline stories. I always look forward to seeing how she is going to tie the two very different storylines together. I love the Gothic elements that are present in these stories, and there are plenty here: a foreboding mansion, murder, a spine-tingling atmosphere, and of course, mysteries to solve. There were some surprising events in both stories that I didn’t see coming, which is what I like best. I believe my favorite character was Milo who is the autistic son of Zane and very much a part of the mystery of present day Traeger Hall. He shows love that is unconditional and much needed in Jennie’s life. I also loved that Ms. Wright included her own beloved cat, Foo, in the story. I’d recommend reading this for fans of dual timelines, mystery, and eerie atmosphere stories. I received an advanced copy of the book from the publisher and NetGalley. My Review: 

Kipling Summerfield is an actor who is struggling to land his next television role after being cut from a popular series. When his friend Malcolm tells him about a summer job where he can act as a reenactor in a seaside historical site, he reluctantly agrees to go. What happens next leads Kip on a life-changing event that makes this a wonderful story.

I loved how the villagers all came together to support Kip. I can’t imagine being in a different era and trying to navigate all of that. But, the townsfolk have heard stories, and they are gracious to help Kip when he needs it. There were some things that happen that made it seem that time travel actually could be possible.

Amelia is a poor relation who must live with her aunt and uncle. She always  tries to be a part of the background, never wanting to draw attention to herself or be a burden. When her vindictive grandfather’s will is read, Amelia has a chance to live independently if she can fulfill the terms. The wet and wild setting of the family estate is one that brings fear to Amelia, and you can’t help but admire her determination to stay. I loved that what she thought would be a horrible experience ended up being the best thing to ever happen to her.

I loved this second book in the Storm Tide series even more than the first one. Readers of all ages will enjoy this story and will find it hard to put down.

Review: 

I love the dynamic sleuthing duo of Mira Blayse and Byron Constantine! As the two continue their search for an unstable killer and member of the secret criminal organization, Circe, I was totally a part of their investigation. I loved the search for clues and the people and places they encounter. Pages were turning at a high rate of speed for me.

I highly recommend reading this third book in the series but do so in order. There is a lot of backstory you will need to know in order to follow the story. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! This is a book that lovers of Sherlock Holmes or historical mysteries will want to add to their collection.

A locked secret garden in Manhattan with historical significance and the only ones privileged to step inside are the wealthy residents who purchase a key—count me in! The plot for The Keys to Gramercy Park was born at our dining room table when my husband looked up from the book he was reading and asked if I knew about Gramercy Park. I hadn’t, so we started Googling and discovered it was a real garden in Manhattan built in 1841 for the cream of society. The fact that it’s been off-limits to the public for one hundred and eight-two years instantly brought all kinds of story ideas to my mind.

Not long after, I discovered that Barbour Publishing Inc. was looking for dual-time stories to fill their Doors to the Past series. I love reading dual-time novels but I’d never written one. I love a good challenge, so I began plotting and before I knew it, I had another first—creating a villain.

I’ve only ever seen the New York City skyline from the New Jersey ferry that travels to and from the Statue of Liberty, so after the story was contracted, I spent several weeks researching Manhattan and Gramercy Park. New York is full of rich history and it was so fun to stumble across the historical details of The Player’s, Edwin Booth, and the stories behind each home along Gramercy Square.

One of my favorite things about writing this story was the juxtaposition of the timelines. We don’t have the present without the past, and what happens in the past affects the future, but the future can also determine how we view, feel, and learn about the past. That’s essentially what The Keys to Gramercy Park is about—the butterfly effect of past events reaching ahead two centuries with dire consequences. I love how in one scene the characters are sending telegraphs and in the next scene, they’re sending text messages.

My Review: 

Wow! I loved this latest book in the Doors to the Past Series. Ms. Patterson masterfully wove the past with the present as Andrea Andrews finds Reconstruction Era counterfeit bills in the walls of her home. With her job of writing articles for the Smithsonian Institute, she has a passion to find the story behind the money. But what she uncovers brings a dilemma that she will have to decide whether an advancement in her career is worth what she discovers. 

The plots for both of these stories was so intriguing. I couldn’t believe the evil and treachery of the Davidson twins’ lives, but it was perfect for the present story. I loved Andrea’s inquisitive and investigative mind. I really wasn’t sure how the story was going to end. Kudos to Ms. Patterson, this is one of my favorites in this amazing series. I highly recommend reading this book for young adults through mature readers.
