Her heart has always been his for the taking, but will he ever claim it?
Lady Olivia Burtrum never thought she’d be so grateful to a duck, but after years of hoping Mr. Gabriel Martin would see her as a woman and come to love her despite their age difference, she might just have a chance with him thanks to one ill-tempered fowl and a few well-meaning matchmakers. That is, if she can survive the danger growing around the man she loves. For Gabriel Martin, being as rich as King Midas comes with drawbacks. After hiding the extent of his wealth from fortune hunters and ne'er do well's for over a decade, his view of women and society in general has become caustic at best. All except Lady Olivia, who seems blissfully indifferent to his riches. Meeting her unexpectedly in Bath seems a gift, or a cruel twist of fate.
Between a friend who has suddenly taken an interest in Lady Olivia and an infuriating duck with a personal vendetta, odds of Gabriel winning her heart are dwindling, especially when a danger from his past returns for revenge. Now he must act quickly or risk losing the woman he loves forever.
My Review:
Olivia Burtrum has waited a long time for childhood neighbor, Gabriel Martin, to notice her. Will this be the season when it finally happens or has she wasted all of these years hoping for the impossible? Hats off the Olivia in being persevering while she waits for Gabriel to see that she has grown up. Seeing Olivia and Gabriel realize that love is indeed patient was such a rewarding part of the story.
Things to enjoy:
age difference
friends to more
mystery
Bath visitors
ballroom dancing
parlor games
meddling friends & family
Lord Duckworth
unlikely hero
This is the third book in the Hearts of Somerset, but it can be read as a standalone. There are characters from the other two books that are in this story, but it doesn’t affect the plot.
I received this complimentary copy of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
