Penelope has ambitions far beyond being a pampered wife, but they all hinge on finding a husband. There’s not a reputable bank that will assist an unmarried lady in financing her own business, but with the weight of the Greenberry name behind her, she just might stand a chance. So when her betrothed runs away, she follows.
The couple is astonished upon they are indubitably well suited. And when Niles’s friends, the Gents, arrive on the scene, the situation goes from bad to ridiculous as an inexpert courtship ensues. But can two individuals fighting for opposing futures find in each other the happiness they dream of?
My Review:
A runaway fiancĂ© and a woman who is persistent in finding him, what’s not to love about that? Niles Greenery, part of the Gents group of friends, does not have marriage in his plans, so when he makes a break for it the delightful story of Penelope pursuing Niles begins. You are sure to love the reluctant groom-to-be to HEA story of this couple as they realize that they are just what the other person wanted and needs in their life.
Niles is such a dear man; he is an observer more than one who is in the spotlight. A man like that is wise and insightful, and certainly one who you want in your life. He seeks to help others and is a faithful friend. Penelope quickly saw that and I loved how she went about their courtship with a little bit of help from her new friends.
I love the Gents! Each one has a generous and kind heart and would do anything for one another. Anything from needing a place to hide, to relationship advice, to training for a boxing match, they are there. I love seeing their stories develop in this series. While this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend you read the other Gents stories too. Each time you read a book you learn a little more about each one of these amazing men.
Things to love:
schemes
the Gents and Ladies
training for a match
punching lesson
Niles defening Penelope
riding horses
rainy days
parlor games
snapdragon analogy
I highly recommend this book if you are a historical romance reader. Young and mature alike will fall in love with the story of Penny and Miles. I love when you can hand a book to a young lady without hesitancy and say, “Here read this!” No blushing, no cussing, just lots of fun and a wonderful happy ever after.
I was given a complimentary copy of the book. A positive review was not required, and all opinions are my own.
